The Swansea University Choral Society are joined by alumni and members of staff, to perform the Requiem in the composer’s own version with piano duo rather than orchestra.

 

The result is a ravishingly intimate work which gives a new perspective on Brahms’ great masterpiece. The vocal soloists are the internationally-renowned singers Elin Manahan Thomas (soprano) and Robert Davies (baritone).

Classical Midsummer Music Spectacular

National Botanic Gardens, Carmarthenshire - 30mins drive from our guesthouse

 

We are very proud and honoured to have international singing star Dr Julie Yuan-Ru Hsieh with us for this year’s Wildflower Weekend Midsummer Concert.

 

The Taiwanese soprano will be joining Symphonica Tywi for our classical midsummer music spectacular on Saturday June 22.

 

The concert starts at 7.30pm and the 55-piece orchestra will play until dusk.

 

Some of the highlights on this year’s programme are: Walk to the Paradise Garden by Delius; Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers; Overture to The Wasps by Ralph Vaughan Williams; Jurassic Park by John Williams; Song to the Moon by Dvorak; and Out of Africa by John Barry

Rhydian

Award winning, double platinum selling vocalist Rhydian is joined this year by renowned harpist Claire Jones. Friends for many years, the pair have achieved chart topping success and legions of fans across the globe.

 

Claire has been the official Royal harpist for 4 years and Rhydian works closely with Prince Charles as an ambassador of the Princes Trust. They are thrilled to be bringing their show to the Brangwyn Hall Swansea this year.

 

Not only will you get to hear Rhydian and Claire at their best but for one night only they will be joined by Britain’s Got Talent finalist and Golden Buzzer winner Gruffydd Wyn, whose natural tenor voice has touched millions of fans.

Blurring boundaries and borders, inspired by the music and poetry of Wales and the UK.

 

World music collective Kabantu joins forces with innovative Welsh chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru to blur the boundaries between genres, taking inspiration from the music and poetry of Wales and the rest of the UK. Featuring brand new music, written and devised by the players from both ensembles, including new versions of the songs Sospan Fach, Suo Gan and Dafydd y Garreg Wen, Close to Folk is a stunning celebration of people and culture.

 

The two ensembles forge in this collaboration to unravel new marriages of music from around the globe, celebrating the space where different cultures meet. This is autonomous music, bridging orchestral and traditional folk music with an open book of genres and countries. An egalitarian, collaborative and creative process, bypassing the conductor and composer to give the music back to the musicians, this new sound world defies genre and embraces sheer joy in music from all over the globe.

Sound Board Magazine have soared out of the blue and into the #SwanseaMusic scene over the last year (actually launching with a special #SwanseaFringe debut issue!) and it's a pleasure to welcome them to the Fringe and Hangar 18 Music Venue this year, where they've a lineup of South Wales-based artists that are set to enthrall and mesmerise you for the evening.
